“Common Strategy for the Asia-Pacific Region: Regional Arrangement for the Emerging Challenges” Presented by Captain Chatupol Chomthongdee, R.T.N. Deputy Director of Planning and Projects Division, SSC, NDSI On 23rd October, 2010 At the 3rd Xiangshan Forum, Beijing China
Introduction Unequivocally, ongoing shifts in geopolitical power from West to East make the Asia- Pacific region more important to the global politics today than ever before. The region is already an engine of the global economy, and major Asian countries are becoming global economic and political actors. In this exceptional circumstance, it is also hard to dispute the view that, at present, almost all of major global actors and the administration around the world seek to examine their previous policies and simultaneously need to concentrate and acquire a more active approach to deal effectively with both challenges and opportunities that lie ahead within the Asia- Pacific region which inevitably recognizes as one of the most significant and prosperous areas inherently encompassing a broad spectrum of the strategic value of key geographic features.
