    1. Introduction:
                       First, I would like to offer my thanks and appreciation to the China Association for
                       Military Science for the opportunity to attend this important conference and for the
                       chance to meet so many profound academics from China and from around the world.
                       The Director General of Strategic Studies Center regrets not being able to join this
                       year’s conference. He stresses to me time and time again the serious dedication this
                       association places towards expanding a professional understanding of basic and applied
                       military science researches throughout the Chinese armed forces.
                       New Challenges to Asia-Pacific Security and Stability is indeed an important topic
                       well chosen by the organizers to be one of this year’s themes.
