Role of the UNITED STATES in Enhancing Southeast Asian Security: Thailand’s Perspective By Senior Colonel Chaianan Jantakananuruk Deputy Director of Security Studies Center, National Defence Studies Institute, Royal Thai Armed Forces AT Southeast Asia Regional Security Forum (SEA RSF) 2010 28th June, 2010, Manila, Philippines
Events of the past decade up to the present time have indicated that military alliance is no longer the sole factor that defines the inter-state relationship, and there has been a growing sense that a number of factors have contributed to accept that the threat of inter-state war does not constitute the sole cause of insecurity. Thailand and the United States share similar values and ideologies, among which are peace, liberty, democracy and free enterprise. This leads both of us to continue our close ties and cooperation in a variety of fields as partners in the pursuit of common interests that benefit both of our countries and peoples. In defense of our common values, Thailand and the United States have fought side by side and have made countless sacrifices for one another.
